Position Title: Installation & Maintenance TechI

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Installation and Maintenance Technician I is primarily responsible for installing, activating and maintaining SL100 voice, Local Area Networks, Cable TV and the card reader access/debit system. Inclusive are single and multi-line communication links, special services, high speed lines and client interactions, all in a multi-level, multi-task environment.
80% Field Technician: Receive service order requests from Order Processing for implementing voice and data communication circuits. Establish equipment needs, priorities and client requests with minimal supervision or assistance. Complete requested actions from receipt of order through service activation and testing. Activate, diagnose and evaluate equipment for special customer needs and usage on the SL100 voice, cable TV and network configurations. Participate in planning and project responsibilities for new and expanded services and renovation projects. Operate a wide variety of tools, test equipment, and other Divisional resources.
Participate in maintaining the communication systems operational integrity via preventive maintenance routines and off hours critical repair service. 20% Administrative Duties: Prepare and update current documentation relating to all facets of Field Operations. Itemize charges for time and material on installation service orders through an on-line process. Disseminate information among the Communication Services division by means of written, verbal or electronic mail as situations dictate. Prepare and complete forms for administrative use and archival information. Complete project effort analysis, when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS: Two years experience in installation and maintenance of voice and data systems with one year of participation in communication project planning and execution. Working knowledge of analog and digital transmission techniques and interconnect methods including fiber, coax and copper services, and termination equipment, such as ATT 110 blocks. Proven operation of transmission and digital test equipment with an ability to analyze results for resolution or recommendation. Very good to excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to follow cable and other communication schematics and blue prints. Must be available to support the client's campus in a disaster situation and be on-call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Must have a high school diploma. Must have a valid CA driver's license and a clean driving record. Desired: college courses pertaining to job or degree. Experience with multi-feature telephones, cable TV service and network interfaces. Experience with MacIntosh & PC windows applications and configurations. Familiar with Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks such as Phonenet, Appletalk, 10-BaseT, and Ethernet applications.
