Position Title: SAS Application Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position provides analytical & technical expertise for large-scale administrative systems. The developer will be responsible for the continued development & support of mainframe & client/server systems, specifically a Physical Inventory (PI) System, written in SAS. Incumbent will serve as technical support liaison for Customers SAS license. Future projects may require use of client/server technology & Oracle business applications as well as some knowledge of SPIRES to analyze & replace legacy systems.
Additional responsibilities include:
understand the business needs of the client, provide analysis & design solutions that meet client needs & solve system problems, deliver efficiency improvements in production code, provide consultation & guidance to clients & other IT staff, & write technical documentation. Work as a senior member of project teams dealing with complex integration of systems & data. Apply a high level of knowledge, ingenuity & logical thinking to solve problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a highly skilled, knowledgeable candidate with at least 3 years of application programming experience, including at least 2 years experience in both mainframe & microcomputer environments using SAS. Other required skills include: demonstrated experience building complex SAS applications in batch as well as interactive environments; thorough knowledge of advanced capabilities & programming techniques to design, develop, & implement applications using SAS (including thorough understanding of DATA step); ability to effectively select & apply sophisticated approaches to solve business or technical problems; ability to learn a wide variety of technologies to provide system support; ability to handle multiple assignments & work within deadlines; work well with a variety of clients & technical staff; work well both independently & in project groups; excellent written & verbal communication skills; experience in desktop computing, both Windows & Macintosh. Desirable skills include: ability to construct SQL queries in Oracle; experience implementing Oracle applications, developing complex business & financial applications, developing applications on multiple platforms (e.g., PC, Mac, Unix, MVS); understanding of sponsored research and/or property administration; understanding of web technologies; programming proficiency in SPIRES.
